In this podcast, we take a closer look at P.E.O., a remarkable organization that started with seven young women in 1869 and now has nearly 230,000 members across the United States and Canada.

P.E.O. is an organization where women celebrate the advancement of women, as they educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College, and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.

We showcased the P.E.O. success story with excerpts from interviews with three leaders:

  • Jackie Matt, Executive Director
  • Rebecca Bruce, Convention and Special Events Manager
  • Sue Stevens, Past State President for the North Carolina chapter

For their biennial convention, P.E.O. hosts more than 3,500 attendees, comprised of P.E.O. sisters, volunteers, guests and spouses. This city-wide event spans a week and the President’s Dinner is one of several convention experiences treasured most by this community.

With the local venue being a key success driver, Charlotte proved to be an exceptional host city for their 2017 convention for many reasons, including their extra-mile hospitality, beautiful downtown setting, accessibility, affordability, and stunning convention center.

Two and a half years ago, the P.E.O. board and leadership team immersed themselves in a day-and-a-half Innovation Design Lab, facilitated by Greg Bogue at Maritz Global Events. This lab experience continues to have an impact on the success of their events and their organization.
